Tax Exemption Information

At MeatPack, we offer sales tax–exempt purchasing for qualified businesses. Eligible customers may purchase taxable products without paying sales tax when a valid resale or exemption certificate is provided and approved.

Who Can Apply

The following customers may qualify for tax-exempt purchasing:

  • Resale – Businesses purchasing products for resale to their customers (e.g., butcher shops, retailers, food distributors).
  • Wholesale – Businesses purchasing products to sell to other businesses.
  • Government – Federal, state, or local government agencies with valid exemption documentation.
  • Other – Organizations with a valid exemption certificate not listed above (e.g., nonprofit organizations or special exemptions).

Note: Customers without a valid certificate should select Non-Exempt, and applicable sales tax will be charged at checkout.

How to Apply

  1. Register an account on our website.
  2. Go to your account settings and select Tax Exemption.
  3. Choose your Tax Exempt Type (Resale, Wholesale, Government, Other, or Non-Exempt).
  4. Upload your Texas Resale Certificate or other valid exemption certificate.
  5. Our team will review your submission.
  6. Once approved, your account status will be marked Tax Exempt and eligible orders will automatically exclude sales tax.

⚠ Orders placed before approval will be charged applicable sales tax.

Certificate Requirements

To be approved, certificates must meet the following requirements:

  • The company name on the certificate must match the company name registered on your account.
  • The certificate must include a valid Sales Tax Permit Number (if applicable).
  • The certificate must include an authorized signature.
  • Documents must be complete, legible, and valid.

MeatPack reserves the right to verify the validity of all exemption certificates.

Renewal & Certificate Review

Texas Resale Certificates typically do not have an official expiration date. However, certificates may be reviewed periodically to ensure records remain accurate and up to date.

If a certificate becomes outdated, incomplete, or cannot be verified, customers may be required to upload an updated certificate before placing new tax-exempt orders.

If a valid exemption cannot be confirmed, sales tax will be applied to orders.

Tax Responsibility

Customers claiming tax exemption are responsible for ensuring that their exemption certificates are valid and applicable to their purchases.

If an exemption certificate is found to be invalid or used improperly, the customer may be responsible for any applicable sales tax, penalties, or interest as required by law.
